Before & After
I mean LOOK at this after ๐
You can’t tell me this view below doesn’t make your eye twitch a little. Ooowee I lived with this unorganized drawer long enough, it was time to make a change. With around $50 and an afternoon, I took my drawer from a mess to a masterpiece. Keep reading below for all the fun details!
Clean out & Purge
First things first, I took all the spices we have out the drawer and our cabinet and wiped everything down. Over many years of use, a lot of the spices spilled out and we had a spice tornado in the drawer. Nothing a little soap and water couldn’t clean up. Then I lined our drawers with this peel and stick liner and it has maintained perfectly for several years now.
A little trivia for your day!! Who wants to guess the oldest spice in our spice collection? And before I tell you, the sad part is we moved in 2019 so there shouldn’t have been any spices older than that, right?!?
Well you guessed wrong… I found a spice from 2010. ๐ฌ๐ณ Umm, who am I? Because Spice Karla is not Regular Karla lol. Now I need you to make me feel better and go straight to your cupboard and tell me your oldest spice! I’ll be waiting in the comments below ๐
Unpackage New Jars
Steralize
I ran the jars through the dishwasher prior to using and then set out to fully dry. The tops I soaked in a hot soapy bath for 20 mins, rinsed and let set out for a day to ensure no moisture was trapped.
Organize
This set that I used actually comes with several different options for labeling. I love the simplicity in this font and the number detail.
Label & Sort
The set comes with 492 labels, in different styles. I sorted out which ones I would be using and then labeled. I ensure the outside of the jar was clean prior to placing label. I did not use any measuring tool to apply label, I just eyeballed it all. I held the label in my right hand and started laying down the left side of the label first and made sure it was straight before sticking the rest on.
Fill jars
This amazing kit comes with a tiny collapsable funnel. But I actually only used it once. I was funny about using it for the powdered spices and without fully washing it in between it would transfer into the next spice. Imagine, cumin pumpkin spice… doesn’t really sound like the best fall muffin flavor, does it? LOL. So I simply just poured straight into the new glass containers.
Drawer Organization
To organize all the jars in the drawer I also grabbed these clear expandable inserts. Our drawers are not a standard height so unfortunately I could not interlock them. But it worked out perfectly to have one line going vertical on the right side and then the other four going horizontal.
After living with and using this drawer all year, I can honestly say this is an upgrade I wish I would have done sooner. Not only does this drawer stay much cleaner, it is also a time saver having everything much more organized and easier to grab. It’s now what I like to call “A pocket of joy”, rather than a pocket of stress.
Happy Organizing my friends!
